- AI visibility
- How easily AI assistants find, name and correctly describe your business.
- AI assistant
- A tool such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot or Perplexity that answers questions in plain language.
- AI Overviews
- Google's AI-written summaries shown above some search results.
- AI Mode
- Google's conversational AI search experience.
- ChatGPT search
- ChatGPT's ability to search the web. OpenAI's search crawler is called OAI-SearchBot.
- SEO
- Search engine optimisation: improving how your pages appear in search results.
- GEO / AEO
- Generative or answer engine optimisation: labels for optimising for AI answers.
- Google Business Profile
- Your free Google listing that feeds Maps and local search.
- Bing Places
- Microsoft's business listing for Bing and Copilot.
- Apple Business Connect
- Apple's tool for managing how your business appears in Apple Maps.
- Structured data (schema)
- Code on a page that labels facts such as address and hours for machines. Google says it isn't required for its AI features.
- robots.txt
- A file telling crawlers which parts of your site they may read. Blocking everything makes you invisible.
- Crawler
- A program that reads web pages for search or AI.
- llms.txt
- A proposed summary file for AI. Google says it isn't used by Google Search.
- NAP
- Name, address and phone number. They should match everywhere.
