How to check what ChatGPT says about your business
Short answerAsk ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode, Copilot and Perplexity three simple questions about your business, in a private window, and write down what each gets right and wrong. It takes about five minutes and costs nothing.
The test
- Open a private or logged-out window so your history doesn't colour the answer.
- Ask about you: "Tell me about [business name], [town]. Where is it and what are its opening hours?"
- Ask as a customer: "What are the best [type of business] in [town]?" and "Who would you recommend for [service] near [town]?"
- Repeat in each assistant, and ask the same question twice. Answers change.
- Write down whether you were named, and whether name, address, phone, hours, services and prices were correct. Note any sources it cites.
What to do with the result
Wrong details usually trace back to a listing or page that is out of date, so fix the source. Not being named at all usually means thin or inconsistent information. Work through how to get your business recommended by AI.

Questions people ask
Why does the answer change each time?
AI assistants generate answers fresh, and use different sources, so results vary. That's why we repeat the question.
