Why isn't my business showing up on ChatGPT?

Short answerUsually because AI can't find enough clear, consistent and trusted information about your business, or can't reach your website at all. ChatGPT isn't a directory you can be added to. It builds answers from web results and sources it trusts, so the fix is to make your business easy to find and check.

1. Your website is blocking or hiding you

A robots.txt file that blocks all crawlers stops search engines and AI from reading your site. OpenAI says its search crawler is OAI-SearchBot and that you control it through robots.txt. Reports also say OpenAI's crawlers don't run JavaScript, so details that only appear after scripts load may be invisible. Put your name, services, area and hours in plain text on the page.

2. Your listings are missing or don't match

If your Google Business Profile is unclaimed, or your hours and address differ between Google, Apple Maps, Bing and your website, AI has to guess. Google says its AI features rest on the same quality systems as normal search, and that a complete Google Business Profile matters for local results.

3. Few independent sources mention you

An analysis by Peec AI of 30 million citations found AI assistants lean on sources such as Reddit, YouTube, LinkedIn, Wikipedia and review or editorial sites. Different assistants favour different sources. Real reviews and genuine mentions help; fake ones are a risk.

4. Someone else is clearer

AI recommends businesses it can describe confidently. A competitor with a complete profile, a clear website and recent reviews is easier to name than you.

5. It isn't a fixed ranking

Answers vary between assistants and between asks. Being absent once doesn't mean you're absent everywhere, and no one can promise a position.
