Why AI gets your opening hours wrong, and how to fix it
Short answerBecause it copies them from somewhere else. When your hours are different on Google, Apple Maps, Bing, Facebook, review sites and your own website, AI has to pick one, and it's often the out-of-date one. Fix the places it copies from and the answers follow.
Where wrong hours come from
- A listing you set up years ago and forgot, for example on Bing or Yelp.
- Christmas or holiday hours that were never switched back.
- Old hours in your website footer or on a menu PDF.
- A Facebook page nobody updates any more.
- Directories that copied your details from somewhere else.
The six places to check
- Google Business Profile
- Apple Business Connect (Apple Maps and Siri)
- Bing Places (which ChatGPT's search relies on)
- The review site your customers use: Yelp, TripAdvisor or a trade directory
- Your own website
How to fix it
- Write one master list of your real hours, including bank holidays, and copy it everywhere, word for word.
- Use "special hours" on Google and Apple for holidays instead of changing your normal hours.
- Put your hours on your website as text, not in an image, and ask your web person to add them as structured data (Schema.org "openingHoursSpecification").
- Close or correct old listings you no longer use.
How long it takes
Each service updates at its own speed. Some changes show within days, others take weeks. Check again after a month by asking a few AI assistants when you're open.
